Real estate developers have stepped forward to help local authorities with a slew of measures to provide necessary medical and infrastructural aid to combat the spread of the severe second wave of Covid-19.
In addition to announcing other initiatives including undertaking vaccination drives for construction workers and mandating strict safety measures at the construction sites, members of realty developers’ body CREDAI MCHI have now also converted a few select commercial properties into covid centres in cooperation with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM).
“The second wave of Covid19 has been extremely severe with an unprecedented number of cases which has put an excessive load on Mumbai region’s public health infrastructure. Comprehending the gravity of the situation, our leading MCHI developers have joined hands with the BMC (civic body) and are contributing to the government’s cause and measures to fight the pandemic,” said Deepak Goradia, President, CREDAI MCHI.
So far, CREDAI-MCHI members have provided space and infrastructure for over 310 beds and Goradia expects more developers to support this measure soon.
Realty developers including Rustomjee Group, Ajmera Group and Shree Naman Group have provided additional infrastructural support in the backdrop of stressed medical infrastructure and need of additional Covid19 centres with extra real estate capacity and beds.
Of these developers, Rustomjee has set up a 150-bed facility at its Rustomjee International School in Dahisar suburb of Mumbai, Shree Naman Group has set up a 120-bed facility at Nehru Science Centre in Worli, while Ajmera Group has set up a 40-bed facility at its Times Square Commercial Complex in Mumbai’s Andheri suburb.
Developers of large commercial complexes and information technology parks across the country are also supporting the government’s efforts to maximize the reach of the Covid-19 vaccine to eligible citizens.
These developers have offered spaces within their business parks which attract lakhs of employees of occupiers on a daily basis. Enabling convenience in a protected environment that would rank high of safety and hygiene protocol is intended to garner increased participation.
Entities like Blackstone Group-backed Mindspace Business Parks, Embassy Office Parks, Brookfield Properties and DLF are providing assistance in carrying out these vaccination efforts smoothly.
